Fandom Flea Dollar auction
A Dollar Auction is a fundraising event that combines a raffle and an auction. Participants bid on items using dollars.
Your role as a seller is to display items, explain the bidding process, collect bids, and assist during the auction.
Before the Auction
- Arrive early to set up your table and organize your display.
- Clearly label each item with:
- Item name and brief description
- Retail value
- The number of dollars required per paddle to bid
Use this chart as a guide for pricing each item:
| Item Value | Dollars Per paddle | |
| $25–$50 | $1 | |
| $51–$100 | $2 | |
| $101–$200 | $3 | |
| $201–$400 | $4 | |
| $401+ | $5 |

1. Explaining the Process to Participants
When a participant is interested in your item:
- Confirm they have a numbered paddle.
- Participants purchase paddles at registration and may have more than one
- Tell them the cost per paddle for the item (e.g., “This item is $2 per paddle”).
- Collect their dollars.
- For each paddle they wish to bid with, they must place the required number of dollars in your collection bucket.
- Example: If the bid is $2 per paddle and someone wants to bid with 3 paddles, they place $6 in your bucket.
- Once their dollars are placed, remind them to raise those paddles when the auctioneer starts bidding on your item.
2. During the Drawing
- When the auctioneer calls your item:
- Watch for the raised paddles that have paid to bid.
- Once all bids are in, the auctioneer or volunteer will draw a number from the paddle basket.
- If the drawn number matches one of the raised paddles that bid, that person wins the item.
- The winner pays only the dollars they already placed—no additional payment is required.
3. After the Winner Is Announced
- Record or confirm the winning paddle number.
- Give the winner their item or direct them to the prize pick-up area (depending on your setup).
- Turn in the collected dollars to the treasurer or event coordinator.
- Prepare for the next item.
4. Additional Tips for Sellers
- Be friendly and help new participants understand how the auction works.
- Remind bidders they can continue using the same paddle(s) for the entire event.
- Encourage participants to visit other tables and bid on multiple items.
- Keep your table neat and items clearly labeled.
- Check with the coordinator if you are also selling items directly in addition to auction items.
